Midlife is no time for seriousness
Between managing hormones on the fritz, teenage attitudes, aging parents, zero patience for nonsense or idiocy, jeans that shrank overnight, and kale, [Does anyone actually enjoy kale? I think it’s a psyop.] midlife is One. Big. Cluster.
It’s too ridiculous not to snort-laugh and maybe pee a little from time to time.
Nobody warned me. I feel like they should’ve warned me.
Well, I’m sounding the alarm. I’m shouting from the rooftops. I’m calling this whole midlife thing on the carpet, and we’re gonna show it who’s boss.
I have stories. I have insights. I have puns and metaphors. I should because I’ve been writing since I was 9, and have been paid for it for over two decades. I play with words, which, I guess is safer than playing with knives…Well, usually.
Professionally,
I’ve been a career-long copywriter and corporate communicator. I’ve churned out award-winning copy and strategy, built wonderful brands and client relationships, and worked with some of the best and brightest in the creative space.
If you need a writer who can adapt like a chameleon to any tone and style and write persuasively across just about any industry, consider me your pen for hire. I am taking on new clients, so reach out to me via DM or at whatarethechancesandrea@gmail.com.
Personally,
I have a million interests, and I’ve accumulated deep knowledge on a variety of topics, not the least of which is the long and bumpy transition towards menopause, which I talk about a lot on my other publication (Can We Talk About This?). I’m finally giving myself permission to let it all out into the world to find the people who need it and collect them into an amazing community.
At this moment in time,
If you’re like me, we’ve got enough years in the rearview to pull onto the shoulder and have a moment. A look around. A deep breath. Maybe even figure out if we’d rather walk.
I’ve been lucky enough to check a lot of boxes in my life. The past 20 years in particular have been a cyclone of work, parenthood, marriage, loss, and all the life stuff whipped together in a symphony of chaos. I have some key takeaways as I brace for (and yet still embrace) what’s coming next.
Together,
We’ll explore it all. Question everything. Observe. Opine. Maybe we’ll solve some stuff; maybe we’ll talk ourselves in circles. Either way, we’re about to have some fun because we’ve earned it.
Ladies. Wives. Moms. Tycoons. Caretakers. Artists. Kindred Spirits of all sorts…
Tonight, we ride.
The Deep Dive Club is Exclusive, and you’re invited
If you enjoy, are entertained by, or learn something from my work, you may want a peek behind the curtain! My paid community gets a ton of perks, and if you’re not in yet, you’re missing out on…
1. The Story Behind the Story
Every month, I dissect some of my own work to give you a peek inside my mind and creative process:
Where’d the idea come from?
What inspired me to write it?
What didn’t make the cut?
Was the first draft a hot mess, and how’d I clean it up?
Why did I think it was important to share the story at all?
2. Captain’s Log weekly roundups
Every Friday, I recap my week, with the good, bad and ugly about what I’ve done to grow and develop my business and presence on Substack. Find out who I’ve spoken with, what we’ve got coming up, and which collaborations I’m exploring. Learn what’s worked and what’s been a waste of time. Decide if you can apply some of what I’ve done to your own publication and business.
3. Workshops and Discussion Calls
Paid membership gives you even more access to me through workshops and discussion calls. You’ll even have the opportunity to submit your own work to be critiqued and improved on a community call so everyone can weigh in and learn together. Plus, I teach the brainstorming, writing, and editing techniques I’ve honed over my career as a professional copywriter. Fun stuff, and full of value!
PLUS…
I know, I know. What more can I give?! This one’s a real treat…
The Substack Investigative Series - a monthly Zoom hosted by me and two smart, witty, and hilarious co-conspirators. Together, we are demystifying the platform, walking you through the sometimes clunky tech that might trip you up, showing you how best to use all the tools to their max potential, and delivering it with humor and style. Whether you’re here as a creative outlet, a hobby, or a business, these are the workarounds we’ve had to develop as we’ve bumped up against platform limitations or idiosyncracies. Kapow!
(By the way, if you can’t join live, it’s also recorded, transcribed, and time-stamped for your re-watching convenience.)
